How fuel-efficient is the Toyota LandCruiser Prado?
The Toyota LandCruiser Prado is big and heavy. There’s no escaping that. So it shouldn’t be any surprise that it’s not particularly fuel-efficient.
That said, it might do better than you’d think.
Our Prado 120 GXL at home is, obviously, rather old now, MY04 in fact, and laden with kids, beach or camping equipment, a bull bar, roof racks, and all manner of other mods, its use is in the realm of 16–17 litres per 100 kilometres – or closer to 20L/100km around town.
Thanks to the addition of the 48-volt hybrid system in the 250, as well as a stop-start fuel-saving system, the claim for this GXL is a much more palatable 7.6L/100km – but it only, theoretically, shaves 0.3L/100km off the 150’s claim.
On test, I found use to be between 8.4L/100km at best to 10.0L/100km at worst, with the diesel unit enjoying longer runs on the freeway commuting rather than running errands around town. It was, however, wearing non-standard all-terrain tyres, which could have contributed to the higher-than-claimed consumption.
The fuel tank on the new Prado is, however, smaller than the 150’s (150L) at 110L, which itself was down on the 120’s 180L total capacity.
